> Weiye (brilliant and blazing) (the first character has the fanqie: 韋 + 鬼 \[wěi\]; the \*Gujin zhengzi\* states: 'Abundance of red colour.' The Mao Commentary to the \*Shijing\* also says: 'Appearance of redness.' The second character has the fanqie: 炎 + 劫 \[yè\]; the \*Guangya\* states: 'Ye also means bright light.' Guo's commentary to the \*Fangyan\* also says it means abundant. The \*Shuowen\* states: 'Weiye means the flash of lightning.' Both characters take 火 as semantic classifier, with 韋 and \[日/((傘-(企-止))-┬+ㄎ)\] respectively as phonetics. \[日/((傘-(企-止))-┬+ㄎ)\] has the same pronunciation as above. The sūtra writes them with 日 as 暐曄, which are popular variants).
