> Oppressed (\[(工\*(几-(厂-一)+手))/心\]迫: for the first character, the fanqie is 曲拱 \[qǐng/kǒng\]. The Erya says: 'Fear, dread.' The sūtra text writes 恐, a vulgar character. The standard form in the Shuowen takes 工, 手, ⺄, and 心, written as \[(工\*(几-(厂-一)+手))/心\]. In modern clerical script, based on cursive forms, it was written 恐, and erroneously written 恐, gradually degenerating and losing its orthodox form. The ancient character was 𢖶. For the second character, the fanqie is 班陌 \[pò\]. The Cang Jie pian says: '迫 means to draw near.' The Guangya says: '迫 means narrow.' The Kaosheng says: '迫 means to press upon, to confine').
