鉆拔（上強炎反說文云鉆䥫銸也可以夾耴物也從金占聲律本作鉗是䥫枷束項也非夾拔之義下辨八反尚書云大木斯拔顧野王云拔猶引而出之廣雅云拔出也說文從手犮聲犮音盤鉢反）。

> 鉆拔 (The first syllable is \*zhān\* \[qiang + yan fanqie\]. The Shuowen jiezi says: "鉆 (\*zhān\*) is an iron pincer, which can be used to nip and take things; it is formed with 'metal' (金) and 占 as the phonetic component." The Vinaya version writes 鉗, which is an iron collar shackled around the neck, not having the sense of pinching and plucking out. The second syllable is \*bá\* \[bian + ba fanqie\]. The Shangshu says: "Great trees were uprooted (拔)." Gu Yewang says: "拔 (\*bá\*) is like pulling something out." The Guangya says: "拔 (\*bá\*) means to extract." The Shuowen jiezi states that it is formed with 'hand' (手) and 犮 as the phonetic component. 犮 is pronounced \*bá\* \[pan + bo fanqie\]).
