> Mosquito curtain \[蚊幬\]: The first character (wu + fen \[wén\]) is explained in the Kaosheng: 'A flying insect.' The Shuowen writes it as 蟁: 'A flying insect that bites people; it emerges at dusk and hides at dawn; formed with "insects" \[䖵\] as radical and mín \[民\] as phonetic.' 齧 is pronounced yan + jie \[niè\]; 䖵 is pronounced kūn. The second character (zhou + liu \[chóu\]) is explained in Zheng's commentary on the Zhouli: 'Chóu means to cover.' The Erya states: 'A chóu is called a curtain-canopy.' The Han Shi waizhuan states: 'Holding the quilt and curtain; chóu is a unlined curtain.' The Shuowen also states: 'An unlined curtain; formed with "towel/cloth" \[巾\] as radical and shòu \[壽\] as phonetic.'
