> Pennon and banner (幖幟: the first is pronounced \[褾 + 遙\] \*biāo\*. The Kaosheng says: '幖 means to raise; a placard.' The Guangya says: 'A sign.' Gu Yewang says: '幖 means a marker to record and recognize it.' The Zhanguoce says: 'To raise a pennon very high.' The Wenzi dianshuo says: 'A banner; a pennant.' The Shuowen has it with jīn and piào phonetic. In the treatise text it is written with mù as 標, which is incorrect; piào is pronounced \[必 + 遙\] \*biāo\*. The second is pronounced \[\[山/虫\] + 志\] \*zhì\*. The Kaosheng says: '幟 is like a sign.' The Guangya says: '幟 is a banner.' The Gujin zhengzi has it with jīn and zhí abbreviated phonetic; zhí has the same sound as above).
