> Perverse and intractable (很悷: the first is pronounced \[痕 + 墾\] \*hěn\*, a rising-tone character. Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: '很 means perverse.' The Guangya says: 'Resentment.' Zheng's commentary on the Liji says: 'Strife.' The Gujin zhengzi says: 'Disobedient. It takes the radical chì and the phonetic liáng.' In the treatise text it is written with rén as 佷, which is mistaken. The second is pronounced \[禮 + 帝\] \*lì\*. The Picang says: '悷 means 懍悷.' The Gujin zhengzi has the same meaning as the Picang. It takes the radical xīn and the phonetic lì; 懍 is pronounced \[林 + 甚\] \*lǐn\*; 墾 is pronounced \[康 + 佷\] \*kěn\*).
