(The first character has the fanqie pronunciation 草 + 遭 \[cāo\]. The Kaosheng says that 操 means 'to hold, to take'. The Wenzidian shuo says it has the radical 手 with 喿 as phonetic; 喿 has the fanqie pronunciation 𢳰 + 躁. The second character has the fanqie pronunciation 古 + 胡 \[gū\]. The correct character is written with the radical 木 as 柧. The Tongsu wen says: 'The 柧 has eight edges; it refers to wood pared into eight edges that one holds to write on; the ancients used it, but it is no longer used today.' The Shuowen also says it means 'edge'; it has the radical 木 with 瓜 as phonetic. In the treatise it is written as 觚, which is a wine vessel).
