鹹鹵（上洽緘反尒雅云鹹苦也郭注云苦即大鹹也說文北方味也從鹵咸聲下盧古反說文鹵西方鹹地也又西方謂之鹵從西省鹵𡩀監形也）。

> Salty and saline (鹹鹵: the upper character \[鹹\] is pronounced qia-xian fan; the Erya says: "鹹 means bitter." Guo's commentary says: "'Bitter' means exceedingly salty." The Shuowen says: "The flavor of the north; it takes 鹵 as semantic and 咸 as phonetic." The lower character \[鹵\] is pronounced lu-gu fan; the Shuowen says: "鹵 is the saline land of the west; moreover, the west calls it 鹵; it takes the abbreviated 西 as semantic, with 鹵 picturing the appearance of salt").
