> 嫌害 ("dislike and harm"): The first character has the fanqie reading \[ɣ- + -jɛm = xián\] (刑閻反). The Kaosheng says: "Hate in the heart (惡, fanqie 烏固反)." The Shuowen says: "Discontent in the heart; also that 嫌 means suspicion. It is formed with the radical 女 ('woman') and 兼 as phonetic." The second character has the fanqie reading \[ɣ- + -ɑi = hài\] (何賴反). The Cangjiepian says: "害 means to injure." The Guangya says: "害 means to sever." The Kaosheng says: "害 means to obstruct; it is also written 夆 (pronounced hài), meaning to block and ambush (in level tone; 夆 is also the name of a pavilion)." The Shuowen says: "害 means to wound. It is formed with the radical 宀 (pronounced mián), 口, and an abbreviated 夆 as phonetic."
