> Sphaṭika (頗胝迦: zhi is pronounced with the fanqie zh\[ì\] + \[sh\]ī; also called sapojia; the name of a jewel in the Western regions. What was formerly called poli is an erroneous abbreviation. Translated here as 'water jade', or called 'white pearl'. The Dazhidulun states: 'The jewel comes from mountain caves; after a thousand years, ice transforms into poli beads.' This might occur, but in the Western regions this material is extremely abundant, yet there is no ice there—from what would it be transformed? It is simply a kind of stone).
