> Naraka (捺落迦: fanqie: n\[ú\] + \[g\]é; a place where suffering is undergone. Also called Nāraka, referring to the persons undergoing retribution. Translated here as 'unpleasurable', and also called 'non-conduct', meaning a place where unrighteous deeds are undergone. It is located either between mountains or by the great ocean, not solely beneath the earth. Calling it 'earthly prison' \[hell\] is a translation according to one meaning).
