Li Xun's commentary states: "Whenever edible greens all fail to ripen, it is called jǐn." Also, the Guliang Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals states: "When two kinds of grain do not yield, it is jī; when three do not yield, it is jǐn; when five do not yield, it is called a great famine \[dàjī\]."
