> Battlements (俾倪: also written in the two forms 㪏堄, and in the \*Sancang\* in the two forms 䫌倪, both with the fanqie 普米 and 五禮, \*bìnì\*): The \*Guangya\* says: '\*Bìnì\* are parapets, low rampart walls.' The \*Picang\* says: 'Small walls on top of a city wall.' The \*Shiming\* says: '\*Bìnì\* are the walls on top of a rampart; through their apertures one peeps (\*bìnì\*) for emergencies. They are also called \*pí\*, meaning supporting (\*bì\*) the height of the wall. Some call them parapet walls (literally: 'women's walls'), indicating they are low and small, comparable to women compared to men. Some name them \*dié\*, taking the sense of layered overlapping.'
