韁絆（上居良反集訓云韁馬緤繫馬繩也說文作繮形聲字也從革畺聲下般漫反說文絆馽也馽音知立反從系半聲經從革作靽非也）。

> Bridle and hobble \[韁絆\] (the first character is pronounced \*ju\* + \*liang\* \[jiāng\]. The \*Jixun\* states: 'Jiang means a horse's tether, a rope used to tie a horse.' The \*Shuowen\* writes it as 繮, a phono-semantic character; it takes "leather" \[革\] as semantic classifier and has \*jiang\* \[畺\] as phonetic component. The second character is pronounced \*ban\* + \*man\* \[bàn\]. The \*Shuowen\* states: 'Ban means zhi \[to hobble\].' \*Zhi\* \[馽\] is pronounced \*zhi\* + \*li\* \[zhí\]; it takes "silk" \[系\] as semantic classifier and has \*ban\* \[半\] as phonetic component. In the sūtra it is written with "leather" \[革\] as 靽, which is incorrect).
