> Frivolous joy \[僄樂\] (the first character is pronounced \*pi\* + \*miao\* \[piào\]. The \*Fangyan\* states: 'Piao means light.' In the region of Jing and Chu, lightness is called \*piao\*. The sūtra text erroneously wrote it as 𭀅, combining "person" \[人\] and "music" \[樂\]. The ancient character for \*piao\* took "person" \[人\], "fontanel" \[囟\], and "fire" \[火\] to make 𠑎; copyists did not recognise it and simply wrote it with \*piao\* \[票\], which is a severe mistake. The \*Shuowen\* states: 'Piao means light; it takes "person" \[人\] as semantic classifier and has \*piao\* \[票\] as phonetic component.' Nowadays, popular script alters the "fire" \[火\] to "small" \[小\]).
