> Reeds and rushes \[蘆葦\] (The first character has the fanqie lang + du \[郎都反\]; the second character has the fanqie yu + gui \[于鬼反\]. The Erya says: "Jia \[葭\] is wei \[葦\]." Guo Pu says: "Namely the modern lu \[蘆\]." It also says: "Jia and lu are wei." Upon examination, these two plants are similar in kind; the larger is called lu and the smaller is called wei. The Yupian says: "Wei is large jia." The Shuowen jiezi says: "The character lu \[蘆\] derives from 廾 and 皿 with the phonetic 𧆨; 𧆨 has the fanqie lu + du \[魯都反\]; it is also written as \[蘆-皿\], which is identical. The sūtra writing it as 蘆 is a popular form").
