> Teal and wild goose \[鳧鴈\] (The first character has the fanqie fu + wu \[輔無反\]. Guo \[Pu's\] commentary on the Erya says: "Fu \[鳧\] is a duck \[鴨\]." The Kaosheng says: "The smaller of wild ducks. Character dictionaries classify it under the bird radical with ji \[几\] phonetic; ji is pronounced shu \[殊\]; the short feathers of birds flying ji-ji-like, a phono-semantic compound." The second character has the fanqie yan + jian \[顏莧反\], or written as 雁, which is identical. The Mao edition of the Classic of Poetry says: "The large are called hong \[鴻\], the small are called yan \[雁\]; they are birds that follow the sun." The Shuowen jiezi says: "The goose belongs to the category of geese").
