> Superfluous growth (胼贅: the first character has the fanqie 辮眠 \[pián\]; the Guangya says: 'Pián is like an increase.' The Gujin zhengzi says it takes 'cowry' \[貝\] as radical and has bìng \[并\] as phonetic. The catalogue text writes it with 'horse' \[馬\] as 駢, meaning a pair of horses harnessed together, whose sense is inappropriate and not adopted. The second character has the fanqie 拙芮 \[zhuì\]; the Huainanzi says: 'Zhuì refers to selling one's children to others as slaves.' Gu Yewang says: 'A son-in-law living in his wife's household is called zhuì.' The Shuowen jiezi says it takes 'cowry' \[貝\] and áo \[敖\] as an associative compound character).
