> Drumstick and drum (枹鼓; the first is fu-mou fan, or fang-wu fan, both being Qin pronunciations. The Zuo Zhuan has 'striking the drum with a drumstick.' Gu Yewang says: 'The mallet for beating a drum.' The Shuowen gives the sound fu: 'The handle for striking a drum.' It has the 'wood' radical and the phonetic bao. In the Yijing tu ji, it is written with 'hand' and fu as 捊, which is incorrect. In Wu pronunciation, the character 枹 is fu-bu fan; bu has the sound fu-fu fan; it falls under the rhyme character you, sharing the same rhyme as fu. The definitions are identical, though the sounds differ; one may follow regional accents, but here it is temporarily not adopted).
