薰蕕（上詶雲反玉篇云薰香草也下音猶並正體字也杜注左傳蕕殠草也水邊細草也左傳云一薰一蕕十年尚猶有臭也說文薰蕕二字並從草熏猶聲論作熏非也）。

> Fragrant basil and foul herb 薰蕕 (the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 詶 + 雲; the Yupian says: "Xun is a fragrant plant." The second character is pronounced 猶; both are standard forms. Du \[Yu's\] commentary on the Zuo Tradition says: "You is a foul-smelling herb; it is a slender plant growing by the water." The Zuo Tradition says: "One fragrant herb and one foul herb: after ten years the stink still remains." The Shuowen jiezi states that both characters xun and you take the grass radical 艸, with 熏 and 猶 respectively serving as phonetics. In the Treatise it is written as 熏, which is incorrect).
