> Concealing apron 蔽襜 (the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 必 + 曳; Bao Xian's commentary on the Analects says: "Bi is like covering." Du \[Yu's\] commentary on the Zuo Tradition says: "Bi means to shield." The Guangya says: "To hide." The Shuowen jiezi states that it takes the grass radical 艸 and the phonetic 敝; 敝 is pronounced 敝. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 昌 + 詹; the Erya says: "Clothing that covers the front is called a chan; this is the apron or knee-covering garment of today." Gu Yewang says: "The appearance of clothing hanging down before and behind." The Shuowen jiezi states that it takes the garment radical 衣 and the phonetic 詹; 褕 is pronounced 逾. In the Treatise it is written as 弊, which is incorrect).
