Wringing the wrists: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 鸎 + 革. Dictionaries state: '㧖 (è) means to hold; it means to clasp.' The Shuowen writes it as 搹, taking the hand radical (手) and 鬲 for phonetic; 鬲 is pronounced 革 (gé). The treatise's writing of it as 扼 is a vulgar character. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 烏 + 灌, which is the standard character. The Shuowen says: '\[耳\*(叉/手)\] is the joint behind the palm of the hand; it takes the hand radical (手) and 𥄗 for phonetic.' 𥄗 is pronounced with the fanqie 冤 + 板. The treatise's writing of it as 腕 is a vulgar character.
