(Treading on suspended ropes): The first character is read fanqie \*n\[í\]-\[zh\]é\* \[niè\]. The \*Fangyan\* states: '躡 (\*niè\*) means to ascend.' The \*Cangjiepian\* states: '躡 means to extend.' Resembling a clear rainbow curving boldly across empty space, stretching a rope across to traverse directly is called \*gēng\*. Transmitted texts write it with the tripod radical as 踾, which is a scribal error and incorrect. The third character is read fanqie \*g\[èn\]-\[h\]éng\* \[gēng\]. The \*Shuowen jiezi\* states: '縆 (\*gēng\*) means a heavy cord; it is classified under the radical \*mì\* (silk) with \*héng\* (恒) phonetic.' It is also written with the wood radical as 𣕲, signifying violent intensity.
