> Reverberation (for the first \[character 肸\], x- + \[y\]ue \[xī\]; Yang Xiong's Ganquan Rhapsody says: “Reverberating and flourishing.” Liu Liang's commentary says: “'Xixiang' means spreading out and pouring forth.” Mencius says: “The sound and echo spread everywhere.” The Shuowen gives it following 八 and 肉 as 𰮀: “Blood vessels moving faintly within the flesh.” Now, 'xiang' is a responding sound; when a sound goes out and echoes back from high cliffs and large buildings, it is called an echo. The note says: 'The sound spreads far.'”).
