> Mental activity (心行; the second character has the fanqie h- \[下\] + -g- \[庚\]; meaning roaming and stepping; the Fangguang jing says: "that whereto the mind tends"; the Guangzan jing says: "where one tends and goes"; the Da zhidu lun says: "Question: How are the mental activities of sentient beings fully known? Answer: The bodhisattva knows that sentient beings move everywhere amidst various phenomena"; that is what the Vimalakīrti-sūtra means by "well knowing the comings, goings, inclinations, and mental activities of sentient beings", the meaning of which is one and the same; people today who read it with the fanqie x- \[下\] + -m- \[孟\] are mistaken).
