(The first character has the fanqie phonetic spelling 消 \[xiāo\] + 醮 \[jiào\], \[xiào\]. Zheng Xuan's commentary to the Liji says: "'Xiào' means curling and puckering the tongue to blow out a sound." Examining this, 'xiào'ào' refers to one who is untroubled and leisurely in seclusion, reciting and whistling in the wide expanse. The Shuowen writes it with 欠 \[yawn\] as 歗; nowadays it is commonly written as 嘯, with the same meaning. The second character has the fanqie phonetic spelling 熬 \[áo\] + 誥 \[gào\], \[ào\]. The Boya says: "'Ào' means unrestrained and dissipated." The Shuowen says: "It means arrogant. It takes 人 \[person\] as its radical and 敖 as its phonetic component." In the text of the biography it is written with 口 \[mouth\] as 嗷, which is incorrect).
