> Hedian 鶡旦 (The pronunciation is fanqie 寒葛. The Shanhai jing states: "On Mount Huizhu there are many hedian." Guo Pu says: "It resembles a pheasant but is larger, bluish in colour, and has feathered horns; it fights until death. It comes from Shangdang Commandery." The Hanshu yinyi states: "The he 鶡 bird, another name is su 蘇; its tail is used for the caps of military officers." The Shuowen says: "It resembles a pheasant; it has the 'bird' radical and the phonetic component he 曷." The lower character is pronounced fanqie 丹汗. The Fangyan states: "From the Pass eastward it is called dan 鴠." The Shuowen says: "It has the 'bird' radical and the phonetic component dan 旦." In collected editions, the 'bird' radical is omitted, which is perhaps an error. Hui 煇 is pronounced like hui 暉).
