The fanqie phonetic notation is gou (狗) + hou (侯). Guo's commentary on the Erya states: 'Water bending like a hook, the current meandering.' The Yellow River Bend is the name of a bend in the Yellow River. The Wenzi dian says it is analyzed as following the semantic component "metal" (金) and the phonetic component gou (句). The collected editions write it as 鍭, pronounced hou (侯), which does not fit the meaning.
