> Xianyun 玁狁 (the upper character has the fanqie: 䝱撿 \[xiǎn\]; the lower has the fanqie: 聿笋 \[yǔn\]). The Kaosheng says: 'In the time of Tang and Yu they were called the Xunyu; in the Zhou they were called the Xianyun; in the Han they were called the Xiongnu. All were given harsh names.' The Wenzidian shuo says: 'The name of northern barbarians.' Both take 犬 ('dog') as semantic, and 僉 and 允 as phonetic. 獫 is also written with 嚴 as 玁. \[狂-王+(山/黑)\] has the sound 勳. 粥 has the fanqie 融祝.
