The Kaosheng says: "Like the facial stamping of today." The Shuowen jiezi says: "The ink punishment inflicted on the face. Analyzed: from radical 黑 'black', with 京 phonetic." In the Kaosheng it is also written as \[劁-隹+里\]. The collection has it with radical 刀 'knife' as 剠, pronounced 亮, 亮 meaning 'to plunder', which does not have the meaning of punishment); 劓 \[yi\] (lower character: 魚 + 記 fanqie.
