> The Kun and Peng (鯤鵬) (the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 骨魂 \[gǔ + hún = kūn\]; the second character is pronounced with the fanqie 蒲甫 \[pú + fǔ = bù/péng\]: the Zhuangzi says, "In the Northern Darkness there is a fish whose name is the Kun; it transforms into a bird whose name is the Peng; the Peng's back spans who knows how many thousands of li." Sima Biao's commentary says, "The Kun is a giant fish." The Shuowen says it is classified under the radical 魚 with 昆 as its phonetic; the Collected \[Edition\] writes it with the radical 虫 as 蜫, which is incorrect; 鵬 is classified under the radical 鳥 with 朋 as its phonetic).
