漣漪（上列纏反毛詩云河水清且連漪傳曰風行而水成文曰漣下倚冝反毛詩傳古直漪重波也說文漣漪水波也並從水漣猗皆聲也）。

> Ripples and billows (漣漪) (the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 列纏 \[liè + chán = lián\]: the Mao Poetry says, "The river water is clear and rippling (lian-yi)." The commentary states, "When wind blows across the water forming patterns, it is called lian (漣)." The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 倚冝 \[yǐ + yí = yī\]: the ancient commentary to the Mao Poetry straightly notes that yi (漪) means cascading billows. The Shuowen says, "Lian-yi means water ripples"; both characters are classified under the radical 水, with 漣 and 猗 acting as their respective phonetics).
