> Raised stalks 抗莖 (the first character is pronounced \[康 + 浪\] \*kàng\*. The Guangya states: "\*Kang\* \[抗\] means strong and tall." Du \[Yu\]'s commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: "To raise." The Shuowen says it takes 手 \[hand\] as radical with 亢 as both phonetic and meaning. The bottom character is pronounced \[核 + 庚\] \*jīng\*. The Cangjie pian says: "The stalk of a plant is called \*jing\*." The Shuowen says it takes 艸 \[grass\] as radical and 巠 as phonetic. 巠 is pronounced \*jīng\*).
