短褐（上端管反下寒葛反許叔重注淮南子云楚人謂袍為短褐說文短從矢豆聲褐從衣曷聲集從木作梪音豆郭注爾雅云梪謂禮器也非集義）。

> Short coarse hemp-garment 短褐 (the first character is pronounced \[端 + 管\] \*duǎn\*; the bottom character is pronounced \[寒 + 葛\] \*hé\*. Xu Shuzhong \[Xu Shen\]'s commentary to the Huainanzi states: "The people of Chu call a robe a \*duanhe\* \[short coarse coat\]." The Shuowen says: "\*Duan\* \[短\] takes 矢 \[arrow\] as radical and 豆 as phonetic; \*he\* \[褐\] takes 衣 \[clothing\] as radical and 曷 as phonetic." In the anthology it is written with 木 as 梪, pronounced \*dòu\*. Guo \[Puo\]'s commentary to the Erya states: "\*Dou\* \[梪\] refers to a ritual vessel"; this does not fit the meaning in the anthology).
