芭蕉（上霸麻反下子消反王注楚辭云香草名也生交阯葉如席煑可為紡績也不堅草也故無垢稱云是身如芭蕉中無有堅二字竝從草巴焦皆聲也）。

> Plantain tree (芭蕉) (The first \[character\] has the fanqie bà + má \[bā\]. The second has the fanqie zǐ + xiāo \[jiāo\]. Wang \[Yi\]'s commentary on the Chuci states: 'The name of a fragrant plant. It grows in Jiaozhi; its leaves are like mats, and boiled, it can be spun into thread. It is a plant without firmness.' Therefore the Vimalakīrti\[-nirdeśa\] states: 'This body is like a plantain tree, with nothing solid inside.' Both characters derive from grass (草); bā (巴) and jiāo (焦) are both phonetics).
