(The upper character is the fanqie tu + gai; the Cangjie pian states: 'Da means great.' The Book of Changes states: 'Great indeed is Qian the Origin, from which all things take their start.' The lower character is the fanqie pu + bo, properly written as the character 樸. The Shuowen states: 'It is the raw state of wood.' The Shenglei states: 'Anything not yet carved is called pu.' Wang Bi states: 'Pu means genuine, like the formless state of qi before differentiation.' The Zhuangzi states: 'If pristine simplicity is not harmed, who would make sacrificial goblets?' It also states: 'Now, harming raw wood to make utensils is the fault of the craftsman; destroying virtue to establish humaneness and righteousness is the fault of the sage.').
