> Camels (𩧐駝: the first character is also written as 馲, with the fanqie 湯落 \[tuò\], and also the fanqie 郎各 \[luò\]. The second is also written as 駞, with the fanqie 唐何 \[tuó\]. The Kaosheng says: "A beast of the barbarian lands." The Shanhai jing says: "It has flesh saddles on its back, the strength to bear a thousand jin, travels three hundred li a day, and can detect where water springs are." In the Shuowen, both characters are phono-semantic. In the sūtra text the first is written as 駱, with the pronunciation 洛 \[luò\]; the Erya says that a white horse with a black mane is called 駱, which is not the character for camel (馲駝)).
