> Inheriting the ancestral line (承祧: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 署陵 \[zh- + -ɨŋ = chéng\]. A dictionary says: 'Cheng (承) means to follow in sequence.' The Kaosheng says: 'To inherit and receive reverently.' The Shuowen jiezi states that it is composed of 了, 手, and 双, forming 承; 了 is pronounced jie; 双 is pronounced gong. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 吐彫 \[t- + -eu = tiāo\]. A dictionary says: 'Tiao (祧) is the ancestral temple of a distant ancestor').
