湍激（上吐官反下古歷反說文曰湍瀨也淺水流於砂上曰湍也水文疑邪疾急曰激竝從水耑敫聲也凝字去聲耑音端敫音同上也）。

> Rushing rapids (湍激) (The first \[character\] has the fanqie tǔ + guān \[tuān\]. The second has the fanqie gǔ + lì \[jī\]. The Shuowen states: 'Tuān means a shallow rapid. Shallow water flowing over sand is called tuān. Water patterns congealing and surging swiftly is called jī.' Both derive from water (水), with the phonetics zhuān (耑) and jiào (敫). The character níng (凝) is in the departing tone; 耑 has the sound duān, and 敫 has the same pronunciation as above).
