鹹味（上遐巖反尚書洪範云潤下作鹹尒雅曰鹹苦也說文云北方味也從鹵咸聲也經文從酉作醎非也）。

> 鹹味 (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie \*x-\*, \[xian\], from 遐 and 巖. The 'Hongfan' chapter of the \*Shangshu\* states: 'Soaking downward produces saltiness.' The \*Erya\* states: '鹹 means bitter.' The \*Shuowen\* states: 'The flavor of the north; it takes 鹵 as semantic and 咸 as phonetic.' Sūtra texts write it with 酉 as 醎, which is incorrect.)
