> Boats and rafts (船筏: the first character has the fanqie 食川 \[shi + chuan / chuán\]. The Fangyan says: "East of the Pass it is called '船', west of the Pass it is called '舟'." The Shuowen says: "It is formed with 舟 \[boat\] as the radical and the abbreviated form of 沿 as the phonetic component; 沿 has the fanqie 與專 \[yu + zhuan\]. In the inscriptions of lead and tin, and in '沿' as in following a current, they are all the same." In scripture texts it is written as 船 or as 舡, neither of which is the original character. The second character is also written 橃 or 𦪑, all pronounced with the fanqie 扶月 \[fu + yue / fá\]. The Fangyan says: "It means '𥱼' \[raft\]; bamboos or logs lashed together to float on rivers for transporting goods." 𥱼 has the fanqie 蒲住 \[pu + zhu / fù\].)
