> Mounds and knolls (堆阜: the first character has the fanqie 當雷 \[dang + lei / duī\]. The Kaosheng says: "The height of heaped earth." The Shuowen says: "A small knoll; formed from 土 \[earth\] with 隹 as the phonetic component." In scripture texts it is written as 塠, which is an incorrect vulgar character. The second character has the fanqie 房務 \[fang + wu / fù\]. The Erya says: "A large plateau is called a '阜'." The Kaosheng says: "A type of hill." The Shiming says: "'阜' means thick; formed from 𠂤 with the radical 土 abbreviated." In the ancient script it was written 𨸏, in large seal script as 隹. In scripture texts it is written as 阜 or 埠, which are both incorrect.)
