謇澀（上九輦反說文謇吃也謂語難也或從言作𧮈下色立反案澀字合從人作㒊字書云譶澀語不正也今從水作澀說文水塞不通也非謇㒊義譶音初音反）。

> Stuttering and halting (jianse 謇澀: the first character has the fanqie \[reading\] jiu + nian \[jian\]. The Shuowen \[jiezi\] says: "謇 means to stammer," referring to difficulty in speech. It is sometimes written 𧮈 with 'speech'. The second character has the fanqie \[reading\] se + li \[se\]. We note that the character se should properly take 'person' \[as semantic component\] to form 㒊. The dictionary states: "Babbling and halting speech is speech that is not smooth." Here it is written with 'water' as 澀; the Shuowen \[jiezi\] says: "Water obstructed and unable to flow." This does not bear the meaning of stuttering and stammering. 譶 has the fanqie chu + yin \[fan\] \[ta\]).
