> Sumeru (蘇迷盧: formerly called Xumi (須彌) or Milou (彌樓), both being corruptions. Properly it is Sumeru (蘇迷盧), translated here as 'Wondrous High Mountain' (妙高山). Huilin cites the Abhidharmakośa-śāstra: 'Its eastern face is silver, northern face gold, western face crystal, and southern face blue vaḍūrya.' The Mahāprajñāpāramitōpadeśa says: 'Being made of the four jewels, it is called "wondrous"; surpassing all mountains, it is called "high". It is also named Wondrous Light, meaning that the lights of the four-colored jewels uniquely illuminate the world, hence named Wondrous Light. It rises eighty thousand yojanas above the water').
