> Mole crickets and ants (螻蟻: the upper character has the fanqie \*lè\* + \*hòu\* \[lóu\]. The lower character is also written as 螘, both pronounced with the fanqie \*yí\* + \*qǐ\* \[yǐ\]; the \*Xiaoya\* says, "The large ones are horse ants, which are large ants; the small ones are ant-larvae." The \*Shuowen\* and the \*Erya\* both write it as 螘 with \*qǐ\*. The sūtra uses 蟻 with \*yì\*, which is a popular form. Nowadays they are commonly referred to together as \*lóuyǐ\*. Another explanation says: the large are called \*lóu\*, and the small are called \*yǐzǐ\*).
