> Saṅghāṭī (a Sanskrit term, formerly written as saṃghārī or sēngqiézhì; translated here as "joined layers", meaning cut and assembled into a double layer. This one robe must be made by cutting into strips. The other two robes may or may not be cut: according to the Dharmaguptakas, Sarvāstivādins, and others, they are mostly not cut; according to the Bhadrayānīyas, Mahāsāṃghikas, and others, they are cut. If not cut, straight patches are placed at the corners. This follows the explanation of Master Xuanying).
