(The first character has the fanqie 朽尤 \[xiū\]. The second character has the sound 留 \[liú\]. The Kaosheng states: 'It is a strange bird.' The Jixun states: 'The xiūliú is the tuóhú \[screech owl\], an ominous bird.' The Erya states: 'The gé, the jìqī.' Guo's commentary states: 'Today in Jiangdong they call the xiūliú the jìqī. 鵅 has the sound 格 \[gé\]; 鵋 has the sound 忌 \[jì\]; 䳢 has the sound 欺 \[qī\].' On examination, this bird roosts by day and flies by night. Xiūliú and tuóhú are both named after their cries; it resembles a horned hawk, of an ashen black colour, and enjoys eating snakes and mice.).
