> \[Licchavi\] Translated as "Thin Skin," also called "Same Skin," or named Mleccha. Translated here as "Sage-Clan Kings." Also called "Lords of the Borderlands," and also called "Rotational Rule of State Affairs." In their country, they yielded \[office\] with righteousness: five hundred elders alternated as rulers of the state, hence called 'rotational rule of state affairs.' Going abroad they served as lords of the borderlands, and they were also called border barbarians who know nothing. The Xiyu ji says: "Named the Licchavī-putra; formerly erroneously called Licchavi."
