> 【Vasu】 The Vaipulya Dhāraṇī Sūtra states: “At that time, Vasu emerged from hell, leading ninety-two billion sinners to come to the Sahā world. The same was true in the ten directions. At that time, Mañjuśrī said to Śāriputra: ‘These sinners, before the Buddha appeared in the world, committed evil deeds and passed through hell; relying on a flower mass emitting great light, they followed the light and emerged (and so forth).’” Po (Va-) means “heaven” and sǒu (-su) means “wisdom”. Why would a person of heavenly wisdom suffer in hell? Furthermore, po means “broad” and sǒu means “penetrating”; po means “high” and sǒu means “sublime”; po means “severance” and sǒu means “wisdom”; po means “firm” and sǒu means “soft”; po means “benevolence” and sǒu means “compassion”.
