> \[Nyagrodha\]: Also termed \*nyagrodha\*; translated here as 'without joints' and also as 'extending all around'. Its leaves resemble the persimmon leaves of this land. Its fruit is called \*tala\*, as large as a five-pint jar; eating it removes heat and phlegm. The \*Zhihua\* says: 'Translated by meaning as willow, because the tree is large and the seeds small, resembling the willows of this land; hence it was translated as such.' The \*Song Biographies of Eminent Monks\* says: 'Translation means exchange; that is, using what one has to translate what one lacks. Just as the \*nyagrodha\* tree is the willow of the Eastern Xia: though the names differ, the essence of the tree is one.'
